I quit a job the day before thanksgiving because the boss said I had to work. Came back early January to get my last paycheck and told him I had a good holiday season and took the last month and half off to spend time with the fam, then asked him what he been up to.
Pretty sure a regular member of staff put that up there for clout.
Most places that require people to work in that period have a rota. Any employer with sense wouldn't provoke their employees like that.
That being said, it could be true as certain professions create incompetent managers.

That’s every year for retail. I work in sales and on the flip side this is where we see our highest commission checks so folks know what time it is.

Same shyt at FedEx. You do not get vacation during the holidays. Come January the whole damn office is gone. 
This isn't the year or holiday season to be testing workers patience especially when it's hard to fill those positions now as it is
Imma date myself, but I used to work at Circuit City as a young dude.
You knew you were gonna work 6-7 days a week, 10-12 hour days for 2 months going in…but you made Commission on them sales, so you could make 3-4 months of regular sales in 3 weeks, so they had to pull you off the floor and bring in food all day in the break room, paid for by the company.
My first December, I made like $5k in Commission alone, and that was a long ass time ago, so it is probably the equivalent of like $8-9k in today money.
That shyts worth the no days off in my mind.
