House Republicans pass resolution overturning student loan cancellation; Biden vows to veto

The vote was 218-203, with two Democrats, Rep. Jared Golden of Maine and Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez of Washington state, supporting it.

If enacted, the measure would revoke Biden's cancellation plan and curtail the Education Department's ability to cancel student loans in the future. It would also rescind Biden's latest extension of a payment pause that began early in the pandemic.

The measure would retroactively add several months of student loan interest that was waived by Biden's extension
, according to a letter from more than 260 organizations urging Congress to reject it.

Passing it "would immediately force tens of millions of borrowers into abrupt and unplanned repayment with devastating effects," the coalition said. The action would also end Public Service Loan Forgiveness, a student loan cancellation program for teachers, firefighters and other public workers, the letter said.

Really thought Biden would get us that $20k forgiveness :skip:

The same party who wants to convince you that they care about the economy.

Words don't mean anything to them. Republicans are the official party of "I've got what I need, fukk everyone else"

That's them on climate change
That's them on health care
That's them on affordable housing
That's them on public transportation and walkable cities
That's them on child care
That's them on education
That's them on violence prevention
That's them on debt relief for anyone making less than 100,000 dollars a year.

They don't care. They've told you in so many ways that they don't care, but it's like naive black people or whites only thinking someone is racist when they say " I hate _____ people" they're waiting for an unambiguous admission through words of how they feel instead of looking at their actions. This is one of the reasons people tune out of politics entirely. There is a clearly irrational, uncooperative and bad actor who keeps being treated as though it's complaints and perspectives are legitimate and worthy of debate even if that actor doesn't believe that itself! Imagine playing a game with someone who ignores the rules and makes up their own rules along the way. Except this isn't a game for anyone who isn't extremely rich. We're talking about peoples futures and lives here and they're treating this as a fukking game.

Honestly at this point, the only way shyt is going to get done in this country is if the people who are holding our futures and health for ransom are put into a position where they can't do that. This 'debate' and 'negotiation' shyt isn't working and hasn't worked since Bush at best. How they are stopped is up to your imagination but I won't be surprised if political assassination came back on some 1960s type beat. When people feel like they have no future left to them, they'll start looking at who caused this and it's not looking good for republicans or the democrats who are clearly controlled opposition.

Wild decision to make when the SC could still uphold Biden's decision. If that happens you get stuck with the hottest of hot potatoes, with zero ability to talk your way out of it. These guys are really setting themselves up for a massive L in 2024, especially if Trump is the nominee.
