The Dolemite film trailer starring Eddie Murphy was released recently. Besides being one of the only 2* men to ever beat Big Daddy Kane in a battle, Dolemite (Rudy Ray Moore) was the most visible bridge to an African American oral tradition that inlfuenced both standup comedy and rapping.
The album,and book, titled Get Your Ass In the Water and Swim Like Me traces and details "toasts" or folk poetry.

Most people have heard of the Hustler's Convention album, and Blowfly records, but the poems/toasts on this compilation were repeated by people for years before any of those records.
