I'm getting a MacBook, this will be my first time having a mac but I don't want to break the bank on cost so I'm thinking of a used one.

Now I know after 2013 everything was soldered on so I was wondering if a pre 13 is a good idea.

I seen this at a pawn shop.

APPLE MACBOOK PRO 13.3 2.5 GHz CORE i5 500GB SATA DISK 4GB 1278

And its older non retina and wondering if it's worth it.

I don't even know if retina makes a big difference or if I'm better getting a air if I don't do heavy work with Mac.

I'm not going over 800 so I want some advice about getting a mac for a first time user.

What do you plan on using it for?

Stay away from the 2010 models. I have one and its known to have overheating problems. If I were you I would build something from scratch. You can just install MAC OS X if you really want MAC OS

basic browsing and streaming, mostly for learning purposes and portability.

No Photoshop or anything.
Don't do it. You'd be better off buying a brand new windows laptop.
Apple's computers are much more expensive than Windows PCs.
I'm an all apple everything guy, but unless you need to use mac os specific software, I recommend windows.

Truth. I used to be an all mac guy for laptops, but the Microsoft Surface Book pro changed the game. Much better and more features than the MBP

You know I'm doing the recording studio thing so apple works out best for me considering the specific programs I use, but if it weren't for that, I would be heavily invested into windows instead. I enjoy apple's programs but I can't stand their business decisions. I have a real love hate relationship with Apple.

I don't know I just want something for travel that's light and I wanted to spend under 8. I have a y700 that I do work on at home but it's not portable.

And all my friends got 6-8 year old macs and they work really good still.

I'm sleep on it, I checked out the surface and it's too damn steep, like 1300 bucks.

I got a couple brehs here selling older ones for a good price, might check them out.

This is just some coffee shop shyt on the good.
