Fukk your corny debates
In terms of communicating one's vision, experience, and individuality aesthetically and with passion, he is unparalled to me.
He's a wholly unique and honest artist. There was no pre-existing formula or blueprint for his style.
You could probably write a linguistics thesis on his slang and use of language. He has the most colorful and vivid visuals of any rapper. He's one of the funniest rappers ever.
He came up with his own bizarre signature rapping style of free associative thoughts and visuals and executes it with no hesitancy. That's a big part of what makes him a special artist: the courage to go out on such an artistic limb with a rhyme style that often bordered on or straight up came off as complete nonsense, but spit it with the passion of Christ.
Hip-hop has long often been largely about ego-driven braggadocio, whether it be you have the best DJ, you're the best emcee, you pull the most women, you have the most money or you're the hardest dude or whatever.
Ghost exudes the traditional hip-hop alpha male ethos, but he doesn't force it. He never brags about being a hard street dude. He just tells stories about street shyt and it comes off in the process. He doesn't brag about being a pimp or a mack. He just tells stories about how he loves hollering at and fukking a variety of women. He doesn't tell you he's one of the best rappers. He just shows you.
A lot of rappers rap about struggle and street life and how that's all they know. Ghost adds further dimensions to it than most. He speaks about his private world and personal quirks, which we all have but don't usually share with a lot of people. He raps about selling crack and shootouts and all that, but he also expresses his thoughts on food, fashion, pro wrestling, cartoons, comic books, international heads of states, old TV shows, historical figures, karate flicks, gangsta flicks, sports, corporeal punishment, and other stuff.
He's not afraid to share his embarrassments and weakest moments, like flying into a fit of hurt and rage over finding out his girl was cheating, growing up with 16 people in an apartment and Jon Jon peeing on the bed, having two brothers with muscular dystrophy, humping the pillow thinking about a girl at school, his mom being an alcoholic with missing teeth, and plucking roaches out of the cereal box. He even made a song where he's crying the whole time.
He puts it all out there for the listener and gives you the unfiltered soul and vision of an artist every time. I can only respect it.
