NHL trying to grow the game belong Canada and the regional areas where hockey is popular( MN, MICH, NE, Chicago, etc). California has been the most successful area where growth in the past 20 years due in large part of Gretzky's run with the Kings and recent cup wins by the Ducks in 07 and Kings last year.
