good discussion, these guys are great, i side with mcwhoorter but i like the way loury makes his points
McWhorter being a jerk is part of why people don't like him. He has a way of talking down to people.Yeah Loury makes a much more impressive pro AA argument than other noted AA proponents. I would have been interested to see a debate with him and Sowell 10 years ago on the issue.
He also seems to have a dislike of Black people, even though his linguist studies have been largely centered around creole languages.McWhorter being a jerk is part of why people don't like him. He has a way of talking down to people.
McWhorter debated Dyson over identity politics ...lowkey Dyson cooked his assLoury switching up again is one of the most interesting things I've ever seen from a public intellectual. It seems like dude wants more props and credit, and is annoyed that cats he feels are mediocre have more fame.
I've also been disappointed in him and Mcwhorter hyping up Coleman Hughes wack ass. But that whole group of so called heterodox new Black thinkers are weak as hell. And this is coming from someone who thinks critical race theory/intersectionality is full of holes.
I wish they would focus on something else during their conversations, the IDW style crying about wokeness is getting tired. For example, Network theory in sociology has gained momentum and Loury wrote about social capital theory back in the day and yet he hasn't invited and engaged with any of the leading minds of the field. Given his platform and expertise that's a wasted opportunity.
