Fresno, CA.
The automaker is using the all-electric Chevrolet Bolt as its autonomous mule, dovetailing Thursday's autonomous projection with GM's earlier vow to roll out a profitable electric vehicle platform by 2021. "For GM to get the benefit they're looking for, they need these cars on the road at scale as soon as possible," said Navigant Research analyst Sam Abuelsamid. "With ride-hailing services, consumers are saved from sticker shock of how much an EV costs -- and the cost of automation in early years is going to be expensive, too." GM didn't say exactly where it plans to launch its driverless ride-hailing service, but identified "dense urban environments" in the presentation. The Detroit automaker's testbeds for the self-driving Bolt are in Warren, San Francisco and Scottsdale, Arizona.

Headlines to boost stock. I've read some of the test reviews in San Francisco and journalists basically said it drives like a senior citizen. Also with GM ignition switch fiasco I wouldn't chance the ignition or airbags not deploying.

i think self driving cars is cool if you got a long travel time to work, (especially if its to/from work early in the morning), or if you're the type that like taking road trips

So does that mean that the taxi industry as we know it is approaching extinction? Will taxi and Uber driver be retrained into other areas?

Taxi drivers have been on notice for a while now... if they aren't working on a plan b, then thats on them.:yeshrug:
Cant stop technology.

So they say, but we are also creating an economic tsunami that no one seems to want to consider. Millions of people with not lateral or vertical skills out of work due to machines.
I used to wonder about a dystopian future but it’s happening before our eyes right now. This isn’t the industrial revolution. It’s much much bigger than that. Yet it here seems to be an effort to discount how much automation will affect humanity.
