HOMER, La. (AP) — Police say a man set a house and six cars on fire after a woman spurned him romantically.

KSLA-TV (Family left homeless by fire alleges it was set by man angry over being spurned) reports Darien Dunn faces seven charges of aggravated arson and one count each of criminal damage to property and unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling.

Homeowner Mary Mitchell said Dunn lived down the street and had made overtures to her granddaughter, Tonquaneilla Malone, the day before.

"He came over here trying to see me and I wasn't on the same page as him," Malone said. "So I guess he got angry."

Mitchell said Dunn returned to her home, where eight people were staying, before 3 a.m. Saturday and knocked on Malone's window.

"I said 'Go home! We're in the bed!' Mitchell said. "I guess he got offended. About 15 minutes later, everything was engulfed. Flames."

No one was injured, but the house was heavily damaged.

While fire crews were at the house, another car fire started a block away. Police say Dunn set a total of six cars in the area on fire.

"Even if you got mad, that's other people's lives in there," Mitchell said. "That's my family you're going to take away from me."

Dunn remained jailed in Claiborne Parish Monday. It's unclear if he has a lawyer who could speak for him. The Homer Police Department did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

Several vehicles were damaged by fire. Other houses also were damaged but the extent of that damage is unknown.

No injuries were reported.
