"The system of mass incarceration depends almost entirely on the cooperation of those it seeks to control. If everyone charged with crimes suddenly exercised his constitutional rights, there would not be enough judges, lawyers or prison cells to deal with the ensuing tsunami of litigation. Not everyone would have to join for the revolt to have an impact; as the legal scholar Angela J. Davis noted, “if the number of people exercising their trial rights suddenly doubled or tripled in some jurisdictions, it would create chaos.”"

And this subsequent chaos would benefit us how? :patrice:

Because I only see it as another excuse for the cac court system to further delay trials, leading to longer stretches of Black men simply sitting in prison, no idea of when they'll be getting out.

People aren't built for real activism in 2015 unfortunately...

Start a movement to Go To Trial, catch 30 years while everyone else cops a plea brehs...

How long can they delay trials in say, New York State, before the case is thrown out for taking too long to bring the accused to court?

I don't know, they're cacs, this is America. They'll delay it as long as they want :mindblown:

Interesting. I feel like they'd open up centers for non violent offenders who are awaiting trial, grant more bail, and reduce arrests of non violent offenders

The back log could screw some innocent people though (waiting longer for trial) although you're guaranteed a speedy trial, but what is speedy

I think you and @ProBlack Panther are correct. Either, they differentiate where they hold accused persons or they strip civil rights in the wake of legal civil disobedience via bureaucratic hold-up.

If everyone elected to go to trial the justice system would get so overloaded it would crash. People wouldnt be sentenced for decades, especially if you had a lawyer that could keep pushing your trial date back.

Plea deals are evil.
