Similar to those who convert to Islam change their names, but I have no religious affiliation.
This has been weighing heavy on me for a while but I'm finally gonna take the step next year. I'll be 23 and settled into my career, and fully independent financially .
Only thing Is my fam is totally against it. We don't share the same views on black issues and to top it off they gave me an old cac name
like an older white man's name...We even found the matriarch who came over from Africa and know the port she was brought to in rural GA. We don't know her original name but have a pic..my fam has no ill feelings about it and I knew right there I had to make a change
It symbolizes a new chapter in my life. I'm set financially, now its time to make changes culturally. It'll be strange at first but this is to break the shackles that cacs have had over my fam for generations. The countown begins
