Don’t know how helpful this is but I did carnaval in Salvador Brazil. Amazing time. I can’t speak on Rio’s carnaval. I was only there for pre carnaval events in Rio. If you can try to go to Salvador for carnaval instead.

Broooo you’re staying far out…. I’d recommend not staying anywhere farther than barra da Tijuca . It’s gonna be miserable for you to get home… like an hour or more.
Yeah I know I kept arguing with my boys that I’ll get a spot big enough for everyone but they were adamant on just staying where they were so I said cool I’ll save some money and stay around there side. His house is like a 5 min walk from my Airbnb
