Schaefer Says Business as Usual, Denies GBP Extension

Speaking with BoxingScene.com, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer denied a recent story which claimed that he signed a contract extension with Golden Boy Promotions until 2018. In the article, Golden Boy President Oscar De La Hoya told the Los Angeles Times that Schaefer had extended his contract with Golden Boy until 2018. De La Hoya also discussed the possibility of doing business with Bob Arum of Top Rank.

While Schaefer would not reveal the length, or the terms, of his contract with Golden Boy, he had "no idea" what De La Hoya was talking about as it relates to signing a contract extension.
For several weeks, there have been rumors of a internal rift between De La Hoya and Schaefer. Both men claim the situation has been greatly exaggerated.

"I'm not going to discuss my current contractual relationship with Golden Boy, but I am not aware of signing a contract extension recently, so I have no idea what Oscar is talking about, you would have to ask him [regarding what he's talking about]. I'm the CEO of the company and I'm working very hard, I'm doing my job and I'm making fights. You saw me at Floyd's workout earlier today. It's almost 9pm and I'm still working. I know that Oscar, as part of his recovery, is making friends with Arum and I support him if that's what he wants to do. But I have no interest in working with Arum. I've been led down that road many times and I don't want to do it again," Schaefer told BoxingScene.com.

Nothing new whatsoever

But of course nikkas are only gonna shyt on Arum, wishing death on him and everything... What they dont realize is this cold war will continue even after Arum's death... The only person can really put a stop to it is Floyd... but his agenda is in alignment with Schaefer.. Wouldn't be suprised if Schaefer took orders from Floyd

Al Haymon and Schaefer are gonna form their own promotional company as soon as Floyd retires.

Does Al Haymon really need Schaefer though?

Yes, because Al Haymon stays behind the scenes. He doesnt even do interviews:heh:

Schaefer would run the show as the face while Haymon just does the behind the scenes work like he does now

This shyt annoys me as a fan of the sport because it completely removes the shot of some very good fights being made.
These dudes need to swallow their feelings and get back to the business of making money...shyt, even Don King and Arum were able to have a pretty steady working relationship and those dudes hated each other too.

Maybe that would be a good thing in the long term for fans since Oscar would probably keep the bulk of the Mexican fighters that GBP has so we could maybe start to see some inter-promotional fights get made. While Schaeffer/Haymon would continue to operate as their own entity.

I dont see Haymon splitting his bread with TMT at all.

I think Haymon and Schaefer wants their OWN company, since they're the ones doing all the work (Haymon manages/advises them and gets them the money they want while Schaefer gets them the fights/venues they want).

Perfect match. Floyd would not be needed when he retires, because as you can already see, he doesnt have an eye for talent which is why his TMT brand is basically him:manny:

Maybe...or Maybe Haymon thinks they can make more $$$ with Floyd as the mascot like Oscar was with GBP...only difference is Floyd won't take pics in women's clothes N won't go to rehab 50 times

TMT signs guys that are green N need to be built up, not established stars...on top of that they are matched tough...so I wouldn't really say TMT doesn't have an eye for talent... I'm sure once Floyd retires they'll look into really beefing up their stable

At the very least well have TMT co promotion with Schaeffer/ Haymon

Haymon does have quite a few of the bigger names on the roster. If he were to bolt with Schaeffer then oscar would be leaning heavy on Canelo till he built up some other stars.
