I told everyone goldson was extremely overrated, dude was ass when D was ass and he wasnt making 'big plays'. just a year before he got this deal, no one wanted him and he crawled back to SF

now look at how many big plays this 'ballhawk' made in two years ? and his best quality was being a 'ballhawk'/'playmaker'

GM's do it to save their jobs and build up good will with their franchises. Notice the Ravens, Steelers, Packers never make the splash moves.
