young breh I know just got a warehouse job with a major company and he wants to secure it.
19 year old breh he's just now getting into the work force and he wants to be the best at work what are some things you would tell him or any young black person trying to be the best employee at their first job.
Be there first and leave last is a good way to set yourself apart. Be willing to do the work other's complain and whine about doing. Be open to manager requests because that means they trust you with responsibilities more than others.
1. Have an exit strategy.
2. Establish a "private bank".
3. Keep your resume up to date.
4. Always scan for new opportunities.
5. Acquire a portable skill. I recommend either sales, programming or copywriting.
6. Create a small business on the side.
7. Keep receipts i.e. e-mail.
The biggest piece of advice I would give is don't be goofy by believing if you work hard, you'll be recognized and promoted.
The aforementioned is coming from having many years experience in predominantly corporate environments.
You personal success, in my opinion, has more to do with what you do outside of work than in it.
