Sound sound sound
they dont promote their artists..
kanye rarely makes an appearance on their albums..or even speaks about these artists
they dont drop albums to begin with..
theyre all brainwashed into wearing leather sweatpants and vests
is it even an actual label??
didnt cudi announce not being on the label..like 2 days before his album dropped? :heh:

their most notable artist (leader, figurehead etc.) hates life, being interviewed or showing up to hip hop events.

kanye and don c just out here blatantly stealin nikkas money brehs......aint none of them nikkas gonna ever shine

John Legend, Kanye West, Common, Kid Cudi, Big Sean all had major success. That's like 50% success rate counting artists trying to make it commercially, compare that to your favorite label.

The label has dropped 23-24 albums (including Kanyes) in 7-8 years.

Does Def Jam's CEO speak about Def Jam's artists or show up in their videos? Do interviews?

He's in the business of creating independent artists, not artists connected to Kanye West or the Kanye West brand.

Prior to the Def Jam deal a couple of years ago it wasn't really an actual proper label at all, just kinda a collection of acts kanye worked with and helped shop for deals with real labels in exchange for EP credits for Ye...but it's not like "GOOD Music" had shyt to do with the actual business of say how a Common or John Legend album was promoted or worked...since 2011 it's been an actual subsidiary imprint of def jam, they put out a compilation that did well and as of next week two big sean albums...i don't know how autonomous it is, but from appearances sake from the outside it doesn't seem to be to any great extent...just seems like a brand name wholly controlled by Def Jam (as opposed to pre jay/dame split Roc-A-Fella or Irv Gotti-helmed Murder Inc.)...which is to say prolly not any much better or worse than just being a plain ole Def Jam artist, they seem to be cool to me...plus you get auto love from the perception of being affliated with Kanye even if his involvement in the projects is often minimal...it's not the Rick Ross MMG super hands on brand conscious approach, but assuming a guy like Pusha can eventually get Def Jam to give him a release date it's good enough or as good as any other major
