Granted, it was a long time ago, but if people are angry enough the passion that spills over from a sports rivalry could serve as a spark

I don't think we give enough if a shyt about "our team" though.

I think the point is more so about when sports are organized on a big scale as they are now. Mass sports wasn't really a thing when the revolts happened in these countries. I don't totally agree with the theory myself though.

We love our sports in Ireland and there's been multiple uprisings and revolutions in recent history.
