Google Fiber has a lot going for it, both as an ISP and a pay-TV platform. There was was one gaping hole in the service though: no HBO. Lets be honest with ourselves, its the big geeks that are looking to hop on that 1Gbps service first. And what do geeks love almost as much as blazing-fast Google-branded internet? Game of Thrones. Now Kansas City (and soon Austin) based nerds will be able to watch Joffrey become an even bigger monster live, rather than wait for some torrent site to get an illegal copy of it up (or, if they're smart, mooch off of someone's HBO GO account). Alongside HBO, Google Fiber has also added Cinemax: Home Box Office's less cool sibling. The branded families of channels are both available today for $20 a month or $10 a month respectively. Or, if you're a real premium TV fan, you can get both, plus STARZ and Showtime for $40 a month. Hit up the source for a few more details.

HBO and Cinemax come to Google Fiber, cable companies shaking in their boots

:whew: who feeding us more than that Goog Set?

Game changer. It's about time. Honestly how stupid do you have to be as a provider to ignore what people have been saying for decades? It's not like they didn't know that people wanted a la carte. Now that someone else is offering it, I expect, "We've realigned our strategic vision and are pleased to offer our customers pay-by-channel subscriptions!"

I hope those cable companies go the way of Blockbuster, especially Cox.

Only bad thing is, this is gonna take YEARS to reach everywhere.

But if it hits, it's gonna mke EVERYONE fall-back. AT&T, Time Warner, etc. are gonna have to change their business model completely. Super fast internet and cable for only $120 a month.

Save.Us.Google

Anybody in KAnsas City have it? What do you think?

I went to the Google Fiber page and I am failing to see how this is any different from what cable companies do. The way its stated is that these are add ons, meaning you add it on to your existing cable package and not that you can subscribe to HBO only. So in essence this a la carte is the same as the cable companies offer it.

When is Google Fiber gonna drop everywhere? It won't change until more subscribers sign on and it becomes the model. Austin Texas is next :damn: this is going to take long.

:what: Pretty smart. The cable industry works by packaging services together. Does not look like Google is really changing that any time soon.

Actually it does. With Cable, if I want HBO, I have to get...

1. Basic cable
2. Expanded basic cable
3. Digital Cable

and then you add HBO on top of that.

Now who else wanna fukk with Hollywood Court?
20 bucks/mo for HBO is extremely expensive who the fukk would pay this? And I hope you guys aren't the same idiots crying about xbox live being $35/year.

Someone that's cheap?

This is huge simply because google also offers a "free" internet connection, you pay a 1 time installation fee then you got innanet with no monthly charge. You could piece together a package cheaper than anything these cable companies are offering.

If Google starts to offer ESPN on it's own, it's fukking game over.

Right but, if you want ESPN and HBO? Or if you want CNN, ESPN, Comedy Central, and HBO only? Or if you want Bloomberg, BET, ESPN, HBO, and PBS only? Or, see the point?

This isn't necessarily a shift for the cable industry, more a shift for HBO and other premium channels who already had the ability to operate with some autonomy and have often times chosen not to. See Game of Thrones.
