We haven't even seen the latest iteration of Google TV yet -- oops, sorry, that's "Android with Google services for TV" thesedays -- but a new rumor from The Information's Amir Efrati points to a Nexus-branded set-top box directly from Google in the first half of 2014. Previous rumors have noted TV-connected hardware focused on videoconferencing and gaming, and this new rumor also focuses on the latter, indicating that at this stage it runs Android game apps with a touchscreen controller, but doesn't carry live TV. The suggestion is that an "aggressively priced" gaming box (that also plays streaming internet video and is controlled by phone or tablet) would give Google the advertising foothold it's looking for on your family's TV screen. The $35 Chromecast dongle has been well received and achieves many of those goals, but we'd like to see what Google could do to separate itself from competitors like Apple TV and Roku or Android-powered hardware like the Ouya -- not to mention the next-gen consoles from Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony.

Google, Google +, Google Chrome, Android, Youtube, now this. Do you want a company that openly admits to spying on you to have all this information? Do you really trust them to having a monopoly on the worlds information?

I love the idea, could be great. Most likely first one falls short but could be nice if they do it right at the same time, sounds Kinect like with that camera

Since Nintendo is garbage, we need another platform. :yes;
It would be awesome if Nintendo was bought by Google. Google is the type of company that would keep Nintendo in place as a company but could give Nintendo the same type of budget like Sony and Microsoft to be able to take losses on their systems and come out with appropriate power

it would take double or so of Google entire 2012 year profits to buy nintendo :beli:

Do you realistically ever see that happening :beli:

not only that :beli:

Nintendo has only 2 million in debt :beli:
google already has 6 billion in debt :beli:

checking google's balance sheet they have 14 billion in cash and combined short term long term and account payables of about the same

the market cap for google is 353billion and nintendo's market cap is about 14b so buying Nintendo if it went for 14 billion only would wipe out their cash reserves completely.

Still would be awesome but is the Nintendo brand and the gaming market worth that much for Google to spend that much...probably not

but if google partnered with Nintendo on a new system that was powered by Google and combined Nintendo's brands and goodwill with Google's technology as far as having an entertainment system like the xbox one i think that would be worth something to consider for both companies

there just isn't enough room for a major system to compete somebody would have to drop out or the newcomer would fail...would Google like to take that chance I say it would be smarter to partner with Nintendo that has a solid name brand and only just recently sold 100 million systems
