My dad posted an old car for sale on Facebook Marketplace. Someone texted him saying they were interested in buying it but they wanted to verify he was real. So they said we’re gonna have a code sent to you and you have to give us the code to prove you’re real.

Long story short- my pops received a Google Voice verification code and he sent it to that person. That person stopped responding to him which is when he called me to ask me about this. Brehs, I don’t ever sell shyt online and never heard of this kind of scam. What can that person do with that verification code? I changed all his email passwords and shyt but just want to make sure I do everything to secure his info. Thanks brehs

The scammer is going to use Dad's phone number to register a new Google Voice number. The scammer will then scam people using the Google Voice number. All roads will now lead back to Dad.

Thank you for the quick replies! I went into google voice and reclaimed his phone number and changes his gmail account pw. Is there anything I need to do? Can they somehow access any of his other accounts?
