I'm going to disagree with the guy up above me here (JN).
Be friendly to people in the office. You don't want to be the person that nobody associates with or cares about.
That's not to say you should share your personal lives with your coworkers.
My advice to you is simple.
Get to work on time every day and set the proper expectations.
If you are given an assignment and someone wants it by the end of the day but you can't finish it until tomorrow, tell them you will have it tomorrow.
Under-promise and over-deliver, my friend.

Do your job well and do not show complete loyalty to the company. They make decisions based on what's good for the business, so if that means laying you off, they will do it with no hesitation. So you should treat them the same way, if there's a better opportunity that comes up next month with another company, don't feel guilty about leaving, it's just business..

Document EVERYTHING that makes you feel even slightly uncomfortable.

Someone so much as looks at you cross-eyed DOCUMENT IT!

Date, time, place, people involved, description of the incident.

Save ALL emails and internal IMs.

When you get fired or let go (which is highly likely) call a lawyer and give them your log.

Hit up that unemployment while you wait for that settlement money.

I'd say be cordial, not friendly, soon enough you'll be enlisted in the camps of the two faced (double agent) disgruntled employees that will lodge all kinds of complaints about management and the company in your eardrums then go snitch on you when you make a negative comment.

It's the reality of the modern American jobs landscape. Most jobs aren't designed to keep people around for longer than one or two years. Plus, it's a safe assumption if he's a Black male that he will be let go at some point in the first two years.

Keep to yourself

Don't be trying to get all close with co-workers & shyt, just focus on you & how you can move up quickly.

This is single biggest mistake I see people make.

this attitude is good for nothing.

I've been in the real world for the past 3 years and I'm good.
