im currently a paramedic, and in the process to be a firefighter which is very hard in the city that I live in (thousands apply). I passed the written exam with a 97, next up next week is the physical agility test. I know about 5 firefighters its a great career, especially in the city i live in

Had basic yesterday. Passed that. Had to climb a 100 + ft later in under 4 mins. Get fitted with oxygen tank and carry a 50 lb hose up 2 flights of stairs. Carried a 170 lb dummy about 25 feet or so (that shyt felt closer to 200....weight was dead fukking weight), and pull a ladder (using a rope) up to the to top and back 3 times (wouldn't be that bad if it weren't for you carrying that fukking dummy just 30 seconds earlier). Had interview today. Definitely could've answered questions more thorough but felt I got my point across pretty good on most. Stumbled a little on first question and totally missed another. It's tons of guys competing (women too) and with no experience, it's all in gods hands at this point. As said, this would be life changing brehs. Pray for me!

Hope you get it. It's a great profession. Hardest part is getting through the hiring process and then the training. After that just have to stay out of major trouble for the next 20-30 years depending on how the retirement system is set up. Assuming that the department is civil service(look up civil service law)it protects you pretty well and gives you a lot of rights versus working for a private employer. If the department you are trying for is not civil service find one that is or better yet when you get hired and settled look into having your dept. vote to become civil service. I think it is another perk that is not brought up a lot about the job.
