I wasn’t there so I don’t know what the reception was like for this song but I would say this is probably gangstarrs best album, which came out in 98, i wonder what was 98 like in the year of hiphop

But this song in particular i thought was interesting for the beat as well as the message in the song, the thing i think is underrated about “conscious rap” is how motivational they can be, this song has that tone where it makes you want to do better and keep fighting, especially that intro into the song when he was speaking to Elijah Shabazz and he spoke on passing knowledge to the youth

And the beat is interesting cause I feel like really only real talented people could make that beat work and guru actually did a great good, but premier took a chance with this beat

Overall is a cool lowkey track that actually has a message which is the beauty of hiphop that people underestimate

Another classic Premo interlude before the beat drops.

Not my favorite Gangstarr album but it's dope. Lot of dope underground or conscious rap came out in 98, alongside some great mainstream rap albums. Black Star and Vol 2 in the same year, pretty crazy to think about it that way.
