It’s wild how we only took Volpe as a way to convince Jack Leiter to skip college and join us. Then that didn’t work and Cashman felt compelled to die on this hill and nobody else.
And I don’t buy this logic of, well who’s playing SS then? If Volpe can’t hit what difference does it make? Just worry about fixing him. I think the big fear now is that Peraza at least defensively will make it difficult to justify putting Volpe back at SS.
SS and 3B are must address holes. To hell with everything else.

What’s made it worse is that he knows how comfortable his standing is. He’s Greg Bird with a Newsmax subscription.

The sample size is beyond large enough that they have to realize that they have to move on from him. In 25 games in May he hit for a .242/.308/.396 triple slash. In 27 games in June he hit for a .205/.290/.375 triple slash. In 11 games in July if today is being counted he’s hitting to a .133/.133/.222 triple slash. He’s gotta be the worst hitter in baseball with RISP and when it’s graded as late and close given how bad his numbers are there. He’s also showing no signs whatsoever of improving at anything while he’s become a liability on defense and as a baserunner (he’s got 3 stolen bases and he’s been caught stealing 3 times since 6/1). He’s got 5 homers in the last 63 games as well so it’s not like there’s even a useful degree of power in his swing. At this point he needs to be replaced even more than Peraza because at least Peraza plays good defense. Volpe at this point is proving himself to be horrible at literally everything. Sending the pitcher to hit 9th would probably yield better results at this point. Ignoring this issue WILL sink their season. That shyt he pulled today where he casually took his time to make that out at 2nd instead of going after the ball to get the sure out at 1st is showing a lack of effort too.

He have to be an elite defensive player to justify hitting that badly at the plate.

Boston has now won 10 in a row. Same number of wins as the Yankees but 2 more losses. Time to stop letting the left side of the infield sink the team and make some trades.
No level of defense makes up for hitting like playoff Nick Swisher. You have to be able to give something of use in the batters box. We went through this with DJ, Donaldson, & Verdugo while they played good defense but were horrible at the plate and it was unjustifiable and they were both better than this guy has been.
