The Coli's foremost Tupac historian is weighing-in to set the record straight.

Tupac was an entertainer, first and foremost. His ambition allowed him to soar to the heights that he did. He was a method actor. He was in character often. He may of disillusioned from his art school background.

Tupac was "real" in the sense that he was going to be a man and stand up for himself. Tupac was not a Grand Theft Auto character. As you enter adulthood and gather the necessary perspective you realize that this 25 year old man was in character often and you will realize that you may of came to know him through the character he presented. Does this make him fake? No. It makes him an entertainer. He had a job of maintaining a brand and selling a product.

People like Wackmaster Flex 100 are essentially angry because they can't get past the facade

This is the real Tupac

Pac fans shouldn't look at this as a slight against him

This interview showed how his real personality. As with any rapper, they have their own persona and a rap persona

I got a feeling alot of fans never watch these long deep interviews to really get to know the artist, instead they go off of MTV interviews and music videos to form their opinion on a rapper. Which is sad IMO. Which is why I think the media killed Tupac and Biggie. The media fed and fueled the flames of their rap persona egos

I love interviews when breh was being his real self.

That's when the pain of losing a spirit like his really sinks in.

This is the same Pac from that interview he did as a teen.

Nobody should - but you're talking about people that grew up from ages of early childhood that bought into a storyline and it's hard to see past that illusion. This is still prevalent today, the proper context isn't mainstream.

All of the truth is there, and I'm not saying to doubt his passion on subjects, but you have to listen to him when he says "I just want them to say "remember when he was bad?". He was after way more than what people see him for. He was talented and ambitious but if you're looking at those WWF style coke rants as realistic that's a fault of your own perception.

Tupac created his reality.

People still have a perception of Afeni Shakur because of what he did on "Dear Mama" - the truth is that was also entertainment, he put together a product. He was a genius at building his brand but there are a lot of people who wouldn't consider Afeni's mothering as warm of a story as it's depicted on that song. They even had extremely troubled times.

just read this....

The Oral History of 2Pac's Digital Underground Years - Rolling Stone
This would be the reaction of someone who's hurt. You're citing the perspective of his homies. The man had a different face for each facet of his life and you knew him well enough you would understand that. It takes growth but you'll get it one day

So you hate when people analyze? Do you always have strong feelings about intellectual topics?

I'm not saying he's "just an entertainer" - I am saying that he was not his persona

:dwillhuh:
First of all, you're saying Dear mama wasn't from the heart but a product to build his brand?
Second, of course they had troubled times he even addressed it in the song :heh:
How she kicked him out of the crib, was a crack fiend etc. so what are you talking about?

There is a movie coming out next month that looks terrible so all this pac hate out of no where will start a buzz. Humans gravitate toward negativity and controversy sells..

Here come all the critics bringing up known 17 year old facts

Slow news week?

Coincidence, eh? The movie is coming out

Thanks for stating the obvious. Any person that picks up a Mic and performs is an entertainer. But his scope was much bigger than that. He's the definition of renaissance man. He could be studying poetry and ballet to being in a grimy house party with no security to chilling with gangsters or A list celebs. A lot of these new rappers could take a page out of his book
