I swear this exact same story happened 10 years ago. Are we sure this isn't recycled news?

It's a recurring incident.

The Muslim politicians at the top seem sympathetic to the Islamic militants and refuse to take any meaningful measures to stop them and have even been alleged to be in cahoots.

This has left many Christian Nigerians (and I imagine many Muslim Nigerians since they are often targeted by radicals as well) desperate and welcoming of American intervention.

Hence the support for Donald Trump that many people on here dub as "Nigerians being c00ns."

The reality is that many people in Nigeria feel trapped without hope by their (not so covert) theocratic government so they latch on to what they view as the ideological opposition (ie Western Christian interventionism).

I would say it's analogous to black Americans latching on to Islam as a rebuff to white Christian oppression we face here.

This is why it's not enough for us FBA to know that someone is "from Nigeria" or "from Kenya."
