Northern Nigeria have a system of Islamic schorlarship that breeds young miscreants. They refuse to give it up. Kids as young as 10 are sent to live with scholars. They don’t have western education. All they do is learn the Quoran and go beg for food on the streets. It is called the Almajiri way. They are often abused and once they are of age abandoned on the streets. It’s these young boys that often grow up to be bandits and terrorists.
Several northern progressives have tried to get it outlawed but they are met with resistance by hardcore fundamentalist.
Fulani herdsmen roam the forests with AK47s. They have no regard for the law of the land. Any attempt to ban open grazing is met with great resistance by powerful Fulani who have historically occupied power.
Note I am not trying to denigrate the North, just stating facts. We southerners have our faults as well.
