LUMBERTON, N.C (WMBF) - The name of the man killed trying to stop someone from stealing a car in Lumberton has been released.
Jonathan Adam Lecompte, 38, died on Thursday after he was hit by a stolen car allegedly driven by 28-year-old Ricky Alex Driggers.
In the Friday update, police also released the charges Driggers is facing.
He’s charged with first-degree murder, two counts of attempted common law robbery, larceny of motor vehicle and felony fleeing to elude.
Police were called to an attempted carjacking around 10:30 a.m. on the 4100 block of West 5th Street.

Driggers was trying to steal a car, but then a group of good Samaritans stopped him, leading to Driggers stealing one of the good Samaritans’ cars, according to police.
That’s when one of the good Samaritans, Lecompte, was hit by the stolen car in the parking lot of a gas station at 2605 W 5th St., according to investigators.
Driggers was placed in handcuffs after he wrecked the stolen car while trying to get away from the cops, authorities said.
Driggers is currently booked in the Robeson County Detention Center with no bond.
