If you have the time, here's an hour long discussion on racial tension and racism in Guyana that was recorded in 2017.. It touches on the political history, the arrival of east Indians etc

This has nothing to do with the suicide rate at all.The racial tension is there among the populace but for the most part it isn't violent, most of the tension is political.

You look at the census you will see big portion of demographics of Guyana is mixed now might be close to a quarter in 2018.

You do know the people that committed suicide in Jonestown were Americans?

Yes I understand what this thread was originally about but half of the posts in this thread aren't talking about the suicide rate. I was adding this video so anyone viewing the thread could get a semi updated state of how Guyana is considering theblimited news coverage it generally recieves. Even with a quarter of population being mixed race, they still won't be their own voting bloc

Guyanese people naturally are not mentally tough. I remember I went to school with a handful of them. Some of these nikkas would cry/complain if they missed lunch like the world was coming to an end.
As a Guyanese male let me be the first to say that you have absolutely no idea what you'e talking about

It sounds like you just hung around weak people. That has absolutely nothing to do with my homeland

Yes they are. You're talking to someone who has been to Trinidad and Guyana numerous times. I've been around these people for most of my life. Dougla doesn't mean half and half, its some who has both Indian and African ancestry.

A dougla is by definition someone that is some of half Indian and half African descent , at least thats the case in Guyana . I would know because my mother (aunts and uncles)is a dougla, so is my half sister and cousins.

Nah brah just asked my aunt who spent 40 years in Guyana..

Mother = African
Father = Indian

Have a child.

That child is Dougla( Not a fan of using that word because it's always had negative connotations in my personal experience but the sake of clarity..)

From there.. that Dougla child can have a child with someone who is Indian OR African descent and the resulting child will still be considered Dougla.

So now the resulting child is less of one thing but it takes the one parent to be completely African or Indian followed by the child's spouse to be of the same descent (let's say African in this hypothetical situation) for the resulting child not to be considered Dougla.

3 generations i guess is an easier way to understand it

Bro my mother is a dougla my uncles and aunts are douglas,and I have nuff family in GT.Never in GT have I been called a dougla when I was there.

And the fact that you say Dougla has negative connotations pretty much shows you have no idea of what it means.

A dougla is some one who is half black and half Indian period,the children of douglas have to have both dougla parents to considred be one.

and the thing is if you come out black looking in GT you are not even considred a real dougla ,
