This thread reminds me of this tragic ship crash in NYC that happened in 1904, I'd bet my last dollar 99 percent of NYC residents isn't even aware that this event happened.

I do NOT think the average New Yorker is dumb because they don't know about it. In terms of death toll it was the worst event in NYC history until 9/11 happened.

I think he’s latino. In addition, for something so specific, many people wouldn’t know unless they had a specific interest in the subject. I’m not sure why OP is acting so surprise. This doesn’t seem to be something to frown upon. I’m generally confuse. There are other things to chastise Americans about not knowing and not knowing the names of holocaust concentration camps isn’t one.

I never said they was on the same scale breh. It was just a tragic event from long time ago that the thread reminded me of


I became aware of it from a silimar disscussion on another forum about why modern day people don't talk about Pearl Harbor. As time goes on people get less and less familar about tragic events. Even with 9/11 national morning shows don't even mention it on the anniversary anymore I watched the Today Show on 9/11 anniversary in recent years and they didn't mention 9/11 at all. Local NYC news still has live coverage of the 9/11 ceremonies though.
