Halle Berry's Oscar for Monster's Ball is very disappointing

I caught a little bit of it again on cable about a month ago and the Denzel/Training Day thread reminded me of this...since they both won Oscars for their performances

Her Oscar worthy performance was getting screwed on the floor like a dog by a white man...

White fantasy of dominance over areas that they usually don't dominate. Nothing makes a white man feel better than a sex scene where he takes over the "mandingo" role and has a black women begging for the dyck.

Couple that with the fact that she portrayed a completely down and out black woman who hooks up with a racist-to-the-core cac to "save you". And NO, watching your son take his life because you failed as a father doesn't make you stop being a racist instantly.

That Oscar was hers as soon as she TOOK the role.

Unpopular opinion I thought she was great in the movie even though the material was mediocre.

She "won" the Oscar because Hollywood wanted to finally award a black actress in the Lead Actress category.

HOllywood rewards earners. That's how Julia Roberts and Sandra Bullock's trash asses got Oscars. I think Julia Roberts beat out one of hte greatest performances of all time in Ellen Burstyn in Requiem for a Dream.

I liked Monsters Ball. The way she's beholden to a racist white man at the end is part of the theme of the movie. That's part of the look at the end and her being fed; after figuring out who he really is.
