He'd probably still be on the team if there wasn't that vesting option for next year looming. Better for Red Sox to let him go now and seek other opportunities than to keep him have him potentially be pissed off and have it seep into the clubhouse. Red Sox were never gonna let him get the PAs needed for that option to vest
Can you Cut a player in the mlb then resign him? They do it in the nfl all the time.
