I think they're unsure how to bring the series to this gen. They can't use those old school tank controls like the old RE games anymore. What's left to do but copy the mechanics of an existing game? I don't think the original games sold well enough for them to risk it anyway.

It would be nice if they dropped an HD re-release of the three games though

I liked all of them but i felt like 3 was the weakest. I dug Dawn of Dreams except for the main character and it dragged on too much.

Wouldnt mind an HD version of all of them and they do need to make an Oni 5
