I think a lot of people on this board, and in general know about nukes, but dont really understand them. We always hear about N. Korea or some rogue state making nukes that could threaten America. While this is a real threat, most people dont have a sense of scale of what a nuclear bomb detonating in their city would look like. To start off this thread I want to give you guys a couple links from youtube detailing what different yields of nukes going off in Chicago could possibly look like. The first detonation will be of a 20 KT fission bomb (think Japan in WW2)...The second detonation will be a 500 KT warhead fusion bomb (superpowers involved here)....the third detonation would be a Cold War era city destroyer :demonic::damn: ( megatons at this point...these are scary as fukk and many probably were decommissioned years ago...they arent the most efficient way to kill a lot of people as I'll discuss later and are really more about the intimidation factor). I'll update this thread if it gets views to the science behind nukes as well. Dude in these videos is corny as fukk but the video is legit.

VID 3:

Here's a cool tool to play around with as well....detonate a nuke in your city and see what effects it could possibly have on the surrounding area.

The same nukes donated on Japan won't be enough to destroy all of NYC I think...
The casualties would be much higher if a WW2 fission bomb were detonated in Manhattan RIGHT NOW due to the population density. But yea, the physical destruction to the city would be a lot less than many people realize. The video details this with Chicago.

Yeah only Manhattan would be destroyed. But radiation could spread. I live in NYC and if a WW2 nuke were to drop on NYC(specifically Manhattan), I think I would be at a safe distances, for now.

But one should note the nukes NK has are quite smaller than the ones dropped on Japan.

This is actually also interesting. When people think of radiation from a nuke what they really are referring to is fallout. I'll explain what that is in more detail later. The closer a bomb is to ground level, the more debris it can pick up and irradiate. So it really all depends on the height these weapons are detonated at. More damage is done at higher elevations due to less physical structures to absorb the energy of detonation. Use the link to actually blow up a bomb in central park and see what you'll find.

I know what fallout is when radioactive materials are expelled into the air and then "fall out" of the air onto the ground. Correct me if I am wrong.

As for the link I've actually used it many times. I tested the Tsar Bomba and it could destroy all of NYC. Heck it could destroy an whole island.

Yeah you are 100% correct that it depends on how high or low these bombs are donated.

That monster luckily would never be used in war. Its too big to mount on an ICBM and any bomber trying to deliver it would be shot out of the sky by any country's air force.

Fun Fact: While the principles of fusion bombs are similar to fusion in the sun....inside the fireballs of detonations can actually be MUCH hotter than the center of the Sun. The yields and nature of the bomb dictate ground zero temp but its usually in excess of 50-150 million degrees F :whew::whoo:...Our Sun's core is about 27 million F. Anything at ground zero gets instantly vaporized....they CEASE TO EXIST. I'll try to do a post on what happens to atoms at this temp.

Yo post the picture if you can. What yield you use?
yield is 1200kt
I used the largest arsenal the B-83:

and around where I live is kind of circled...

:ehh: compton isn't affected either :win:

Basically where most of the hipsters live would be attacked :mjlol:

Agreed. Its mostly a propaganda bomb if anything.

I actually heard about this. But kinda off topic.... Do you think we can harass the energy of the sun in the future? I mean we aren't even a Type-1 civilization as of yet.

Interesting.
