to answer the original question, no. Kobe doesn't get praise for beating up on extremely weak teams, because for the most part, he doesn't face them in the playoffs. On average, excluding the strike seasons, his first round opponents have 50 wins.

Another interesting note, 5 times he lost to the eventual season champ. Another two times, he lost to the Western Conference Finals representative. In short, the NBA title, runs through Los Angeles in one way or another during the Kobe era.
