Everyone says Negril is the place to go.
I, myself, haven't been yet.

I've heard from a coworker that the Bahamas were not too impressive

Also,

My coworker who went to the Bahamas went in January a few years back. He actually said it was pretty chilly...which was disappointing since the idea behind going in January was to get away from the NYC Winter for a bit.

Not sure how much hotter Jamaica will be, but I'd suggest packing some sweaters or something just in case.

yep I've been there, since your going to a resort all depends what you plan on doing breh.

There are 3 airports, montego bay is the tourist airport, kingston (manley) is mainly for business and where jamaicans who back home land, and there is a smaller airport near ocho rios but mostly only private planes.

MOre than likely you will be going to montego bay airport, if you stay in montego bay the resorts are a bit older and the beaches aren't that great, there's alot of places to eat and its easy to get round , but every shop is the same and if say you want to go to dunns river falls, dolphin cove its going to be like a 2 hour car ride.

If you stay in ocho rios like two hours from the airport, resorts are a bit newer, right near dunns river falls and dolphin cove , downtown ocho is :ehh:, make sure sno one puts a necklace on you and cast a obeah spirit on you :demonic:

There are other locations like negril, st. anns , or you can be a gangsta and go to kingston like black folks should do and stay at like pegasus and tour the city like devons house, see museums etc.

You do the resort life or tryna do local vibes?

Anyway use Travelzoo or Cheap Caribbean websites and :eat:

Bahamas:
Every coworker story you hear about the Bahamas is someone going to Nassau/Paradise Island which is one tourist section. Which is damn good if you about that fake shyt, it is what it is. Even then I'd recommend staying at a hotel near Atlantis, you can buy an armband, and save on costs.

But if you into real island life, diving, scuba, fishing charter trips, empty beaches, dune buggies, watersports, riding golf carts at night.... Don't go to Nassau.... go to a Family Island (thats the outer islands). Check out Abaco, Long Island, Eluthera , Harbor Island (you can take a day ferry here from Nassau)

The cruise ships are worse if you dont get an overnight stay, you only get off in port for like 8hours. So you only have time to glimpse the tourist area, unless you have a local connect picking you up and taking you out. (my cousins/brothers)

The only boat with overnight stay is Carnival Imagination (which I use for my weekend trips down).

In the next year 2014, the new mega-resort will be completed - Bahamar on Nassau which renovates the old 80s tourist district Cable Beach. It should be a nice alternative from Atlantis

If you need links advice etc lemme know

=====

You have to remember Nassau is 21milesx7miles and is the Capital city of the country, even though hotels and resorts are there. It aint gonna be no tropical paradise. It's a city.....

You can hit another island thats 4-5 times the size with 1/10 the population if you island hop, and thats the beauty of Bahamas. You can visit like 20 islands. People just go to the main 2, expecting Eden and get a Kingston.

But I guess thats why they make the resorts

jamaica as a island :banderas:

However I'm jamaican

It all depends what you want to do, if you are going to spend alot of time at the hotel on the beach then I wouldn't recommend montego bay, but if your going to be out and about depends what you want to see. Ocho Rios beaches are :banderas:, your close to alot of the excursion places, just the travel from the airport on those buses take awhile, unless you got family there to pick you up :heh:

I got married at Compass Point - http://www.compasspointbeachresort.com/

Looks kinda like the Ricks spot posted above. Its the islands, as long as you avoid the tourist traps you good

Anyway sorry I got off point from original OP.

If you do go in Winter to The Bahamas. On Dec 26th (Boxing Day) and New Years we have our annual Junkanoo parades (sorta like Carnival).

Rates will be higher due to this

You are Jamaican?:ohhh: Now I'ma read your posts in a accent :gladbron:...anyway Reincar and Kalik said what I wanted to say about both, Ochos Rios is beautiful and you could find a resort right on the beach that is modern and sexy as you would want it with your girl... BUT DON'T GO TO KINGSTON :merchant:. Cabs wouldn't even go to be honest with you...
