Started watching this shyt and I had to stop watching it ten minutes in. Full of meek black men as waiters serving whites and of course knowing their place. i know its set in the fifties blah blah blah but I'm not gonna watch a show where supposedly black people knew their place. No wonder this show is so popular. :stopitslime:

Those of you who've seen the show in its entirety, does this theme run throughout? I don't mind watching a good show but I don't want to see black characters playing subservient roles.

i watched some of season 1.

i like the cinematography but the storylines are boring.

They had black people in menial jobs but i didn't find it really disrespectful. More true to life.

They treat the women like crap, drive drunk, smoke non stop, the females smoke and drink while pregnant, its all part of the realism.

Yeah, this. Seasons down the line it get's into other societal transgressions and developments throughout the decades. Very well written show. Not for everyone though.

Great show. I watched every episode.
It starts in the fifties, through the years it displayed "racial progression," like when the story line continues during the sixties, seventies

It's not about black folks struggles, but it gives subtle glimpses at times of the black plight, back then and even now
Like in one scene, the firm is pitching to a TV set company. They suggest that the TV company should tap into a potentially very profitable demographic...the negro community

The mad-men says that research showed that the TV set company was already popular among negros, so they should consider advertising directly to the negro community and should place ads in newly created publication called Ebony Magazine...the TV set company gave them :beli: then said, "What makes you think that the reason we are so popular with them, isn't due to us not advertising to them" :ohlawd: I had chills when I heard that exchange
