and if so has it helped? I keep putting non hispanic and then black. But I was thinking about leaving race off to see if it lands me an interview.

what job applications are you filling out that ask for race/ethnicity? :ohhh:

i never see those questions from employers directly, only after you're hired and you're filling out gov't paperwork where they ask for that shyt

if theyre directly asking race in an application i encourage you to report that shyt

In the past I added it, and also left it blank or put other. There wasn’t a difference in the amount of responses. But this was at least 12 years ago.

That self identity question is so the people in charge of hiring can say they interviewed a certain amount of black folks, women, veterans, etc.

The discrimination would still be there whether they hire you or not. But it gives them a shield to say they gave anyone a shot. It doesn't effect you as much as it protects any potential racist or bigoted employer

Not only that, but most companies want to hire from within, and only do interviews because they are required by law. A white man interviewing me once said they are looking to hire from within. At that point, I was very frustrated with going on interviews, and not getting the jobs. I point blank asked him why he called me in if they already had someone in mind. He said they had to. I was so upset, I called my dad outside in the parking lot. I was 25, and had to move back home with my mom. I was desperate for a good job.

But I made it.
