Has Eminem Ever Changed The Rap Game with An Album Release?

this isn't an Em hate thread, while i dont listen to him anymore, i did at some points, and i respect him. plus he brought along my favorite rapper ever (50).

was just thinking about this though.. take someone like 50.. GRODT basically changed hip hop and brought in the gangster shyt again. has an Em album ever swayed the entire genre?

i made this cause this white girl i work with swears his new album is going to change the world or the rap scene or music or something.. i was like.... uhh NO.

Just being a white rapper with that sort of lyrical ability in the mainstream was unheard of.

I don't know how much was changed per se...Maybe put more white kids on to hip hop.... but I do know the industry was salivating for an Em feature at that time.

You could maybe argue he made it okay for white rappers to come and rap again. I know that sounds ridiculous and yes there was white guys before him but there's less of an agreement from white folks. I think he gassed up a few CaCs to think it was ok to be in there culture maybe idk

i could see him getting more white people into hip hop, that makes sense. but it didn't really birth tons of white rappers who made it or anything. and it's not like his weird/fukked up Slim Shady thing caught on and inspired rappers to be more horrorcore.

His first 3 albums all kinda had their own moment.

Em and DMX kinda came into rap at a time where mainstream wasn't really hard like that. Raw energy and lyricism had kinda been regulated to the underground and here come these guys who were pretty unique and kinda shocking.

Due to white privilege, Em was an underground MC that got to play above ground. He got the platform that other rappers of his ilk couldn't get. So you didn't see a bunch of mainstream rappers try and copy him and run with a formula that wouldn't really benefit them. But he def influenced how people rapped and it wasn't until the internet allowed a wider net that you started seeing cats like OF pop up, be super weird/self depreciating and still get grammy nods. Then you got Kendrick and J Cole who have Em in their DNA pretty much running mainstream rap besides Drake who's more of a pop star.

Then his influence on battle rap is another thing to take into account. It's battle rappers outchea making more money than some of the guys on the radio. Meaning the art of rap is thriving independent of the music industry, I would say Em definitely had a hand in that.

I think that horrorcore style was way more prevalent underground... It didn't make it to the mainstream tho..

So he does have a stamp in the culture IMO... no matter how trash he's become now..
