Has there been a rise in passiveness in basketball players?

Was watching this and the comments on Knox's temperament got me thinking, why do some players have such a reserved and passive nature?

You have some players like Fultz who have mental blocks and then you have some who just seem to have no fire in them and play on autopilot.

I think theres been a rise in these types of players over the past few years and there should be some research into this

It's too easy to be put on that Summerjam screen in the current era.

All it takes is a guy like Steph or Harden to dance on you or a guy like Embiid or Gobert or Blake to dunk on/block your soul, and you're a meme for the next year.

I think most these guys realize it's better to keep quiet and let your play do the talking. People are unforgiving on Twitter and IG these days.

Guys used to contest dunks without hesitation before and if they got dunked on, it's all good. You hustled and tried to make a play. Now you get put on a highlight reel and shyt on. The social media microscope is a very real thing that athletes are very aware of.

Also, this is the era of coddled athletes that are all buddy-buddy with the opposition and chop it up at the FT line with opposing players. Immediately start scheming after the final whistle about linking up and making Superteams.

It's a gigantic frat party and you don't want to be the dude who alienates a bunch of guys in the league and is left on the outside looking in. If you're new to the league or not a superstar, it's best to keep quiet and just play.

Not saying I agree with all of this, just my take on it.

Its not just athlete, its a widespread trend among young men

You're probably right.

Quiet and reserved players obviously aren't new, we've had legends like Tim Duncan be very chill but he isn't anything like these new guys.

They seem to be devoid of passion and that 'alpha' mentality

This is not some new trend.
Joe Johnson,MIcheal Conley,Kawhi,Robert Parish,Rudy Gay,Timmy,David Robinson,Joe Dumars,Al Horford and plenty other nikkas fit that profile

nikkas just be in love with men that scream and thump their chest

Personally, I like both types of player, not everyone needs to be Kobe :yeshrug:

Some people can have elements of both like KD.

I can relate to them personally but I do think they're different to the quiet players of before. They seem slightly mentally vacant

Duncan was quiet but still aggressive
he would never allow smaller players like Dray outmuscle him in the post
