I just bought a DNA test kit form ancestry.com. Have any of you ever use this? Did it tell you what part of Africa, Europe, or Asia your ancestors were form? Or did it just say you were 85% Black 10% White 5% Asian? The kit a just bought form ancestry.com seem to be petty detailed. It said it could tell you if you were from West Africa. I'm really looking forward to finding out what my ethnic background is. For those who what to look into it here is the link

Yea I did mine through 23andme.com. It cost $99 and one of the best in the DNA market today. None of these companies can really tell you where in Africa/Europe/Asia your ancestry is from since we are all mixed with various West/Central African & other people. But your Maternal haplopgroup will tell you where your mother's mother's mother's, etc. is most likely from as well as your Paternal haplogroup father's father's etc.

Yea, i checked out 23andme.com. I chose ancestry.com because it seemed more detailed. In the video they had on their website they said you can find out if you had ancestors in West Africa, or other parts of Europe.

All of the companies do that. Pretty much you get your percentages African/European/Asian, your maternal/paternal lineages and distant cousins that are on the site. I liked 23andme cause 1. I did it with a free promotion lol and 2. They also have a health section on there that has a lot of information about your health traits and risks. None of these sites can really tell you where you are from in Africa tho. If it's claiming it does, they just comparing your MIXED African DNA with populations in Africa and saying it's most likely that you are similar to this group of people.

I'm cool with that. I know they can't tell me all my ancestors are form west africa, or the congo, because we are so mixed up. Thanks for the info

what was your result

Roughly 80 African 20 European...that's about average for Black Americans from what I have seen on the site and in studies....I have a little NA too like 1%...I didn't think it was real at first but my maternal line is NA so it is real...just really distant
