My wife who is Colombian comes from a very remote village in the middle of nowhere. The only way you can access the town is by river. A town full of black people. We were having a talk about slavery in the US vs Colombia and I found it interesting that if you ask them where they came from, they’ll tell you they’ve always been there. Of course the Anglo-Saxon narrative is that they are “maroon” communities.
