You know what, I think it would be interesting to lie about a degree and apply for a set of jobs and see which ones check and which ones don't.....unless I can catch a case for that

I wouldn't do it cause I have no need to but I'm not going to knock anyone who does. I really don't understand why it is a requirement for some of these jobs. And best believe there are a lot of people with degrees who are incapable of doing simple jobs.
Nah never lied about that. Though fluffing salaries, fluffing job titles and fluffing current or former job responsibilities is common.
So is taking like the technology part of your degree title off as well. So if you have a computer engineering technology degree you take off the technology part on your resume. Also taking off the year you graduate off your resume is another thing folks do.
All that stuff above is common and it helps folks get jobs and higher paying jobs.
But lying about having a degree is a no no because usually you can't talk your way out of shyt if you busted. You can talk your way out the rest above. But not having a degree and lying about it pretty much will have you between a rock and a hard place if you busted.

This is damn near like lying about having a cdl. 
Only they usually check that by asking for your license.
