Have you ever turned down a job because they couldn’t afford you?

An ex coworker and friend applied for a job. Mid level management. The job posting on indeed listed the salary range between 80-120k. She interviewed and was basically overqualified. She said she was the most qualified person the recruiter sent them.

Then the ask her what her salary expectations were and she said 90k. Awkward silence and they basically was on some negotiation shyt. This is in Virginia btw. But she fukked up basically they wanted to know what her minimum was and she told them between 60-65k

She feels like they’re going to offer her the job, but now she don’t want it. She make $86,000 at her job in Jersey City. But she wants to relocate bad.

Yup. I did my year at a help desk job and another place was offering a title that matches all the shyt I was doing (more than the job description when I accepted) and by this point I had the first year confidence (Getting into IT can be hard. Making moves after the first job is easy).

Anyway I am on the phone with these mothafukkas telling them all this shyt I do and they ask me how much I am looking to get paid.

It isn't the last time but it is absolutely the first time while making what people consider an adult wage that I turned a job down flat. I got what I asked for a few months later with a different place.

She wouldn’t have to pay for housing. Her mother owns a rental house in VA Beach. The job is 70% travel back and forth between Richmond and VA Beach. They also give you a company car and they cover repairs and gas. The only hiccup is child care. She got two kids. Right now she don’t pay they much because her aunt takes care of them for a low price. All and all, she would come out better. But she doesn’t want to work for less than what she’s making now. The job requires more time in the field. More work and more time away from her kids. Her current job is a comfort with stability , but she’s makes out her upward movement.

Technically that’s the lowest she would go. When she told them she makes 86k, the manger above her doing the interview literally told her “I’m working in the wrong industry” :dwill:

Once he told her that, I told her keep looking. Try to find something else. There aren’t many gigs that pay 80k in central VA tho. I left Charlotte because I couldn’t find jobs that paid 100k unless it’s some sales job or specialized gig.


There are good paying jobs in the tristate area. But the cost of living negates a lot of it. $86,000 in northern New Jersey don’t stretch as far. Especially if you’re a single mom with 2 kids.
