North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
The souths ability to churn out so many one hit wonders has kept the music scene relavent over the long term and is why it's stays on top musically at this point. Making a local anthem has become somewhat of a lost art, but the south has mastered it.

Instead of worrying about mixtapes all a lot of artists need to focus on is ONE hit record. Ja Rule knew the importance of it but it seems like up north rappers want to continue to make music for their core fans, but then complain about not getting any radio spins.

I think you have a great point, a local market is supposed to be filled with 'local' hit songs. Everyone should be trying to create a local hit, and the local public chooses what they actually feel based on the particular songs. From there, local hits percolate up to Nation/International hit status if they are able to cross that threshold. Its basically a survival of the fittest/ natural selection kinda theme. Problem is in a lot of areas/genres the music scene isnt balanced to where this kind of emergent behavior can occur.

Pretty much, people don't care if the songs follow the same formula, but this has been the Souths bread and better since the Master P era.

Only reason we are complaining because there's no balance, but if "keep it real" cats don't buy records, how can we expect real hip-hop to sale.

For instance, Raekwon's Pound Cake would be in rotations for a year plus, but people want catchy music.

In all honesty I feel like it is the South's ability to try to reinvent itself! They go from southern playalistic, chopped and screwed, whisper, snap, crunk, buck, booty, juke, Autotune, trap, to Rap'n B music. Say what you want but these cats down here aren't afraid it try different shyt.

Not really. Most artists that are out now can't be considered one hit wonders. If it was 2006, you might have a point.

Bigges selling artists is a southern dude by the name of J Cole that outsold Kanye and a Canadian named Drake in 2013. The old man that is Barney's puppet don't count and the 41 year old CAC don't count as well.

But that's the thing, the one hit wonders concentrated in a certain region empowers more people to do it. More people do it equals more opportunities for long term successful artists.

New York needs more Ron Brownz of the world. Creativity. The South has more freedom to be creative with there sounds which is how New York hip hop use to be.

But then you got Jay Z making on some

Under minding his own city :snoop:

That Death of Auto-Tune took food out of a lot of people's mouths. Especially T-Pain. Basically an older MC trying to force a young audience to conform to old standards.
