most likely he chopped that shyt up to bits and pieces, and just kept fukkin around with the pitches til he was like....or he mighta even down pitched the whole song and just let it play through til he heard that piece. that's a good method to stumbling ass backwards into shyt. just one turn of the pitch knob can be the difference between a classic beat and a wack one. but havoc is definitely one of the GOATS.
true, a lot of dope shyt happens by accident or from fukking around but he might have also made a dope beat where he slowed the pitch so he tried it on a few diff records. or he might have been high AF and was just messing around with things until he found something he liked. he still had to pick that sample, that record to use and chop it exactly how he wanted. chopping samples in FL is A LOT easier than it was back in the mid 90's on an MPC or whatever. you can zoom in, see exactly where you want to chop and most programs do auto chopping for you. it takes talent and crestivity to hear that few seconds of a song & turn it into something else.
