Not a frat story but...
When I got promoted to Non Commissioned Officer in the Army

, I was summarily adorned with stripes that were pinned to the collar of my uniform without the closures attached to actual pins

. After the ceremony concluded, I noticed that the officers and the commander was leaving the area hurriedly

. Instructions were given to the junior soldiers and family members to await the promotees in parking lot

. I look around and see senior NCO's removing their headgear and coats...grinning, stretching, and whispering

. The one remaining guy instructed us to dismiss the area through a particular hallway headed outside. I was first to go to the hallway, I turned the corner and the first face I see is my Squad leader looking like

. I look over his shoulder and see rows of Sergeants on both sides of the hallway, and I immediately realize what's up

. It's a goddamned Stripe Gauntlet, but before I could come to grips with that.....I get two heavy smacks on both metal pins. These pins are placed right on the collar above the chest and clavicle bone, so now I got half an inch of metal in flesh on both sides. Commonly called getting your blood stripes. I wince, and he gets right to ear and calmly say " welcome to the corps mutherfukker."
He pulls a swim move like a linebacker and thrusts me straight into the gauntlet of men awaiting me for 30 more feet of torment.
I get home, peel my uniform off and look in the mirror at the blood roll down my chest.

.....

.....
Still serving....still got my stripes.
