The Targaryens and GOT are loosely based on them. They were a French/Norman family that ruled England for 300 until the War of the Roses, a civil war lead by the Houses of York and Lancaster. Henry VII, who descended from a b*stard line and was in exile for much of the war ended up winning the whole thing and created the Tudor dynasty.

A lot of the characters are even bits of real people.
Examples:

Henry VI: Mad King

Richard, Duke of York: Ned Stark

Edward IV: Robb Stark/King Robert

Elizabeth Woodville: Cersei

Princes in the tower: Joffrey and Tommen

Richard III: Stannis/Tyrion

Henry VII: Jon/Dany

The irl fukkery is more hilarious than GOT starting with William the conqueror and his son’s generation.
:mjlol:

In 1077, Robert declared war against his father as the result of a prank played by his younger brothers William Rufus and Henry who dumped a a bucket of shyt over his head.
:bryan:

Robert was enraged and, urged on by his companions, started a brawl with his brothers that was only interrupted by the intercession of their father. Feeling that his dignity was wounded, Robert was further angered when King William failed to punish his brothers. The next day Robert and his followers attempted to seize the castle of Rouen. The siege failed, but, when King William ordered their arrest, Robert and his companions fled like bytches to Flanders to the court of his uncle before plundering the county of the Vexin, and causing such mayhem that his father King William allied himself with King of France stop his rebellious son.

Relations were not helped when King William discovered that his wife, Robert's mother Queen Matilda, was secretly sending her son Robert money.
:heh:

At a battle in January 1079, Robert unhorsed King William in combat and succeeded in beating his ass, stopping his attack only when he recognised his father's voice. Humiliated, King William cursed his son.
:damn:

King William then raised the siege and returned to Rouen.
:deadrose:

At Easter 1080, father and son were reunited by the efforts of Queen Matilda, and a truce lasted until she died in 1083.

They did , it was called game of thrones

It was called game of thrones
Did you read what I said? The real story is better than the show with a more satisfying ending.
:snoop:

their next period piece should be about anywhere except Europe or America.

Ancient Asia: Qin/Han Dynasty

Medieval Asia: Genghis Khan’s dynasty

Medieval West Africa: Mali Empire

Ancient East Africa: Nubians

Middle East: Ottoman Empire, Persian Empire

I would say The Moors and Ancient Egypt too but I don’t imagine the casting would be satisfying.
