Even with Jimmy, they needed a better supporting cast than Herro, Bam, and Rozier or washed up Lowry. They needed another star perimeter player and size in the front court. Every year they’re terribly by every offensive metric except free throw shooting and are terrible to the point of nearly the worst in the league at rebounding, shot blocking, and shooting percentage both inside and outside the arc. The 2022-23 squad had a negative point differential and they’re always last or close to it in points per game and pace. Once it became clear they weren’t gonna be able to get a second star, they needed to blow it up and stockpile assets. We all know how Jimmy raises his game in May and June but he’s still only one guy. I mentioned before comparing him to the best player on every champion since 1980 but let’s also compare Bam and Herro to the 2nd and 3rd best players on every champion since then. It’s not pretty.
