Is there an interview somewhere?im still mad at the fact arrival so so damn short. originally dev 1 said that it was just going to be an instrumental leading into negro angelitos, but Razah heard it, and was like let me spit over this. May be the one of the best intros ive heard in a minute.
Is there an interview somewhere?
question and answer # 3
Hey guys,
Here are the answers to the questions you guys posted for Dev1. Hope everyone enjoys!
1.what was it like working with Razah on this album?
It was an amazing experience and he is a great dude. I feel like with this album we really tapped into something special. Without sounding corny is was a pretty deep process just being prepared mentally for where we wanted to take the music. Weโre both Libras so we really seemed to have the same vision every step of the way.
2. can we expect more work from you in the future?
Yeah I have a bunch more songs with Razah. I have a joint on both R.A. and Masta Killa new albums. Timbo King too.
3. you have one of the best productions on The Arrival, what was the inspiration for that beat? and was it made for Razah specifically?
Honestly im surprised with the way people have responded to this track. It was originally intended just to be an intro for Razahs album, and I thought he was just gonna talk on it or whatever. It was made specific for him thatโs why the Heaven vocal sample is there. I was just thinking the best way we could try to capture the spiritual vibe we were going for on the album but still it needed to be hard. When we linked up in the lab he went into the booth he started talking on it and then I was like, waitโฆwhat is he doingโฆ is he gonna try to rhyme on this too? I didnโt think it would work but the outcome was amazing. It was exactly what we needed to set off the album
4. What Wu fam would you like to work with on a full album in the future?
Heaven Razah was supposed to be a whole album with my beats but I was kinda busy with the label any everything and I didnโt want to hold Razah up. He works quick and since he had heat from cats like 4th, Bronze & Math it made sense to include other producers. I would still like to make a full album with Razah as soon as heโs up for it. We talk about it all the time.
5. Who are the producers that give you inspiration?
Man, everyone. I came up listening to Large Professor, Premier, RZA, Pete Rock, Beatnuts, EPMD, Diamond D., DJ Muggsโฆyou know the same as everyone. I think there is a little bit of everyone in my sound.
6. Do you produce other genres of music apart from hip hop?
I make all types of music but its really more just for my own pleasure. My production style always has a hip-hop foundation though no matter how you want to categorize the sound.
7. If you could produce an album for one person right now, who would that be?
Other than RazahโฆDOOM is someone Ive always talked to about doing a project with. We have some songs done together, but we have both been so busy (more him than me tho) so the odds of a whole album getting done is not super likely. Plus he needs to finish the Starks project first. I think we can all agree thatโs more important at this point. Damn who would you guys like to hear me do an album with?
8. How did you get started in production;
Just always been a fan of music and always been in a circle of very creative people so I was able to pick up a lot of production skills early on. things that the average kid starting out might not have access to.
9. what equipment do you use.
I try not to stick with just one technique for making beats but it usually will involved an MPC in some form or fashion. Protools is always a good help these days, maybe a keyboard to 2 and live sounds are fun to work with.
10. do you do this for a living or on the side?
Itโs a living in the sense that I produce for acts on my label which is how I make my living. i might also do a score for a indie film or tv show so thats always nice. but Ive always been the type of person to wear several hats so I can make money off production but its by no means how I support myselfโฆyet. I would like to focus more on it.
11. What gets you in the mood to make beats?
Man just music. I might hear a cool samples or sound that makes me perk up. Hearing another producers dope track always gets me in the mood for making music. I might be stressed out and just need to zone and smash some drum sounds around and without even trying comes a fly track. The hottest tracks usually come together the fastest.
12. Did you start by making beats, or did you also used to rap?
As a kid I tried it all. Rapping, Djing, graphitti, but at the end of the day im more a behind the scenes kind of guy so beats just fit my personality better.
13. Is there any new artists about to sign with Nature Sounds in the near future?
Thereโs always new artists about to sign but we prefer to not speak on those things until we have a finished album ready to bring you.
Thanks guys this was fun and appreciate all the support and feedback on the forum (good or bad)
